Idea Napkin No.2

1. My name is Bryce Harrold and I am a second year Finance student here at the University of Florida. As I have stated before, I am very good at working in groups and have excellent organizational and problem solving skills. I enjoy looking for problems and inefficiencies that kids within my same demographic are having and looking for innovative ways to fix them. I have experience working with multiple online start-up companies focused on targeting college students. Through these jobs I was able to generate brand awareness as well as find ways, both successfully and unsuccessfully, to reach college-aged students.

2. As before, my mission will remain the same. I will be offering students books at lower prices and allow them to receive them with same day delivery, at a small additional rate. We will also have experts who have taken these courses at UF guiding students as to which books they actually need to buy in order to make sure that students are not paying for books that they will open maybe once or twice all semester. In addition to these services, will be allowing online exchanges between students to take place on our website, allowing for greater e-commerce, lower prices, and higher web traffic in order to build our brand. The services that ChompNation Books will offer, revolve around the highest degree of convenience and the most bang for the buck for our patrons.

3. After reviewing my feedback, my audience will not change because the services that I offer are applicable to really just about everyone of all majors and ages. We can serve an incoming freshman on the pre-Med track, a fifth year engineering major, or an MBA student. There is really no limit to who we can offer our services to here at the University of Florida.

4. Our audience will care and be very excited about the launch of our company due to the fact that it will save them ample loads of time and money, which as a student, is extremely important. Also, as a fellow student, I know the feeling of overpaying for books and I want to ensure that my clients will not have to experience that very same feeling.

5. Our core competencies, once again, will revolve around putting our customers first. We will differentiate ourselves through same-day delivery, live experts on hand to answer Q&A, as well as free giveaways and special deals at the beginning and throughout the semester to draw interest right away. Offering student faster and cheaper textbooks will put us ahead of our competition, I believe.

I do believe that all of these aspects of my business will fit well together. I believe that using an online browser as well as an e-forum for students to trade their school supplies has the potential to be very successful. Once again, the advertising and marketing will be the hardest part to take care of. However, with the skills have have acquired through past experiences, I do not believe this will be a huge issue moving forward.

5 Point Takeaway from Feedback (Feedback Memo):

1. I was really able to identify a good target market for my services.

2. This idea can be very practical and useful for all students at UF.

3. I need to work a strategic marketing campaign.

4. I need to find a way to make my company standout over bookstores and other websites.

5. Same day shipping can be a huge advantage for my company.

  1. Hello there Bryce,

This is such a great idea! I think any venture that focuses on lower-priced textbooks will be an absolute success. What really amplifies your idea in my opinion is the customer service aspect that you will be offering. The expert feedback regarding which books will just be wasted money/financial aid is great, and same-day delivery would be such a bonus for so many students that's it is hard to imagine this not being a success. Great job and best of luck to you!

  2. Hey Bryce,

I think you have a really great business idea, and it was really interesting to read about the different services that your company will provide. I am curious as to how you plan on being able to do same-day delivery with such a large campus. It seems like that would be pretty difficult considering how many books you would need to have in stock and how many people would need deliveries. Overall, I really like your idea!

  3. Hey Bryce,

Seriously awesome idea. I like that your company can be set apart from Chegg and other book-transferring websites in that your deliveries have the potential to be same day and you will be equipped with people who have taken previous courses and could save people a lot of money when offering their feedback regarding the actual use purchasing the book gave them. Your giving students the opportunity to help one another in our community who are already balancing the stress alone from taking these challenging courses and perhaps a job on the side to pay for their academic experience. Nice work!

  4. I definitely think the live experts and same day delivery will make this company stand out. It becomes a huge problem for people when they order the wrong book and then suddenly have to wait for another one to come in about a week later. I think talking about how much this will cost would be a good idea since a lot of these things sound really expensive. For example, one day delivery is usually somewhere around $30 dollars so how are you planning on making it affordable? Here is a link to my blog if you want to check it out.
